STREETSCAPES // nielsen park
Nielsen Park is a favourite among locals and visitors alike, with its obvious natural beauty and the variety of recreation areas. Located at Vaucluse and sitting within Sydney Harbour, there is so much on offer to fill a whole day.
This area is a big part of Sydney's history with the grand Greycliffe House sitting on the hill. It was built in 1851 after William Wentworth sold 14 acres of his land to his daughter and her husband. Greycliffe estate was lived in by prominent families over the years, then it was used as a hospital for babies and mothercraft training school. The site was transferred in 1911 for public use and you can take a guided tour of the grounds to learn more.
You can't miss having a swim at Shark Beach and watch the boats, yachts and ferries go by. Enjoy a picnic on the grass among the huge old fig trees and then explore one of the best coastal walking tracks. The Hermitage Foreshore walk takes in the vast views of the harbour and city, leading up to Shark Island and Strickland House.
