MASTERSTROKE // frank gehry
Sydneysiders have been amazed by the unveiling of the newest development for the UTS business school building. Architect Frank Gehry has outdone himself with this sculptural design and engineering feat. The undulating brickwork is incredible and almost looks as if the walls are moving in waves. The brick curves seem to drape around the structure while the glass window panels break through the surface at different depths. Then the juxtaposition of the reflective large glass facades contrast in sharp angles to the softness of the construction.
All the new structures for the various University of Technology campuses have changed the face of the city and it's exciting to await the next stages. I usually cringe at losing the heritage of older buildings and am rarely impressed by modern architecture (finding most of it mediocre). However if this is what the future holds then I'm willing to change with the times.
